  • 350 ml (1 1⁄2 cups) strawberries fresh, hulls off, quartered
  • 300 ml (1 1⁄4 cups) raspberries fresh
  • 2 cups pineapple cubes fresh or canned
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh mint leaves
Method
  1. 1 Rinse all berries gently, Drain well.
  2. 2 Mix pineapple cubes with quartered strawberries and raspberries in a large bowl.
  3. 3 In a small bowl, blend maple syrup and lime juice thoroughly.
  4. 4 Pour syrup mixture over fruit. Toss lightly but thoroughly to coat every piece.
  5. 5 Sprinkle chopped mint across the top. Stir lightly again.
  6. 6 Cover bowl. Refrigerate about 55 minutes. Not too long or berries get soggy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Açaí Bowls and Fresh Fruit Salad

Can I use frozen açaí berries instead of fresh fruit? Not really for this. Frozen açaí puree is thicker, different texture. This recipe is specifically fresh berries. Frozen açaí packets work if you want to make an actual açaí bowl — blend it with yogurt, pour it in a bowl, top it with granola. Different thing entirely.

What’s the best fresh fruit cup setup for meal prep? Make it same day you eat it. That’s it. Doesn’t keep well. The juice breaks everything down by day two. You could prep the fruit and keep it separate — berries in one container, pineapple in another, the syrup by itself — then mix it cold right before eating. But that defeats the purpose of ease.

Can I make this without maple syrup? Agave works. Honey takes longer to mix. Neither tastes as good. If you skip sweetener entirely it just tastes like cold fruit with lime, which is fine but not the same thing. The syrup softens the tartness from the lime.

How long does a fresh fruit salad actually keep in the fridge? Two days if you cover it. Three if you’re pushing it and don’t mind it being watery. After three days the berries collapse completely and it’s basically compote. Not worth it.

What’s the difference between this and a salad with oranges? The acid. Oranges are sweeter and softer. Lime juice is sharp. It cuts through the maple syrup and makes everything taste bright instead of just sweet. You could swap in salad oranges but the whole flavor changes. It becomes a different dish.
